About

I’m a Southern girl who gets tired of the absurdity of politics and news.  So I’m going to write about it here.

This has become a sort of scrapbook for me, a place where I can record the top stories of the day and my thoughts on current events for historic value.  However, I am rethinking that, and may change formats again soon.

I just want to touch a little on my beliefs:

I believe we need tight regulation on our economy and not so tight regulation on our personal lives.   Meaning the government shouldn’t be able to tell us who we can or can’t marry, how to raise our children, or how to live our moral lives.  We need a government that protects our rights.

My thoughts on christianity, as that has become a major concern in elections.

I am a christian.

What does that mean?  It means I believe in God and Jesus.  I love God and hardly ever doubt his existence any more.  Half of the time I believe Jesus was God’s son and the other half I still wonder and question.   That is my personal, intimate view.

What my being a christian does not  mean.  It doesn’t mean that I am

  • anti-gay rights,
  • anti-abortion,
  • that I go to church (I don’t, I can’t stand church),
  • that I read the Bible every day,
  • that I have memorized the Bible or even a portion of it,
  • that I take the Bible at face value,
  • that I am a creationist,
  • that I think evolution is evil,
  • that I go around asking other people if they are ’saved’ or if they ‘believe’,
  • that I think people go to hell if they don’t parrot a meaningless sentence,
  • that I don’t think you should question your church or God (I mean, how else will you learn?),
  • that I vote Republican (ha, if you think that you haven’t been here long),
  • that I watch or listen to evangelists, that I give money to ‘christian’ causes or the church (I try never to do that, actually),
  • that I agree with all the other christians in this country
  • that I am at all like the other christians in this country

Honestly, I hate to call myself a christian.  It seems the very name brings forth to mind the image of a hate teaching, intolerant, ignorant, judgmental, bigoted fool of a person who’s primary goal in life is to ’save’ other people by asking them to repeat what they spew in ‘Christ’s Name’ so the moment they’ve done so they can move on to the next victim.  It disgusts and repulses me.  Which is unfortunate, since the point of christianity is love and tolerance.  I’ve been considering labeling myself a ‘liberal christian’, but I’m still giving it some thought.

And there you have it.
